For those of you who don’t already know, Chewie is actually a person, his full name, Richard Chew. He’s a Vancouver boy that’s been working in the service industry since his early 20’s. His love for hospitality was immediate and working at popular restaurants, bars and nightclubs sparked the idea of owning his own place some day. His concept was simple: serve food that he wanted to eat, at a place where he wanted to go and in 2011, ‘Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar’ opened its doors near Kitsilano Beach. It was an instant hit and as he says, “We literally hit the ground running and haven’t stopped since”. What was once only a dream is now a thriving business with 2 exciting locations with long time friends and business partners, Mel and Jamie Haddad. Everyone’s hard work and determination paid off, both Chewies Kits and Chewies Coal Harbour are now famous in Vancouver for their lively happy hour, southern fried chicken, and fresh raw oysters. As their saying goes, SUPER WICKED AWESOME!
